Newer grower here, I have been talking to some growers who have terminated thier mains and are having growth surges. I have also read from a world class grower to let them run til September. Just wondering what the experienced growers feel about early growth compared to more leaves in the fall to promote sustained growth?

I think you need to let part of the plant grow to encourage root development in Kins & melons all season.Plus its a safety valve against blowing them up.Just my theory,I cant prove a thang!

A record-breaking grower here (1471#) had stump rot, and by the last couple of weeks was relying only on ONE side vine...he cut the main vine 6 weeks before weighoff, and still kicked some butt!! It can be done, if needed! As long as you're getting new, healthy leaves, and your vines are good, enjoy!

This is one of the good topics that everyone has a opinion on and nobody can be 100% sure theyre right.I personnaly like to let the main run around the edge of the patch as long as possible.I dont know if it helps or not but it makes me feel good.
