making a big ball of crap at a few root nodes . the root underneath is rotten. baby svb ? I just sprayed merit through my sprinkler last week. shouldn't that kill about everything? i've posted pics in my diary, i;ll try to copy the link when approved

if its a svb you should be able to extract it by making a small cut and picking it out.
never heard of spplying merit through a overhead sprinkler? usually you need a more concentrated mix ,then applied above and below the leaf canopy via a back pack or some other form of sprayer.
the overhead method was possibly to weak to have a positive effect?

Systemics take a while to get into the system of the plant.

If you can see the pest, pick it off or spray a contact insecticide.
Next year get your systemics on the plant early, and a couple times during the growing stages of the plant.

Ive been usein bayer tree and shrub ,that chit dont work .wasted 45.00 on 2 bottles .been useing a niddle and injecting it in the vien,200 cc this summer ,thought i was going to kill the plant ,been dreching too.killed 28 svbby hand ,never had a svb problem to this year .a foot away from my 700lber 1723 found a maggot a foot away ,been wounding wy water was dirping out of the leaf node.my 1103 stump pulled svb out of it ,next year goin to diffently invest into traps ,the way it looks i wont beat my Pb .

I had been using Bayer t&s also have traps then I found a svb and ordered merit.
these are just little maggots in the root. I'll put down more merit hope for the best

Sounds like fungus gnat larva to me. Dipel Insecticide kills the larva. A picture would help.

Bayer Tree and shrub has no where near the amount of Merit as true Merit. Also, the new bottles of Bayer Tree have even less. Like others, I thought Bayer was useful and I used it every other week and still ended up with a couple SVBs in a couple sidevines.
