If you keep it perpendicular to the ground it will flatten out and not want to tip

It is going to get longer as it grows if it is like it's mother. The bottom will fill in and back as it grows too. Get something like an inner tube to support it until this happens. Then you can move the tube as it grows. I wish I had one that last year, instead I built a berm out of soil, which only made it's shape stranger.
