So why do pumpkin leaves cup in hot, arid conditions? And heck, they may cup in other conditions too - I don't know. Seems like it tends to be the older leaves. Thanks for a reply ~

Wouldn't a cupped leaf tend to corral rain or dew to travel down the stem to where the root is?

You know, I initially thought that, but I'm growing in two different locations - one location cups and the other does not. Which then made me wonder if it was related to over fertilization? The location of the leaves that cup are hefty and dark green, the others location - not nearly so. Sounds like I should just grab a drink and go watch the olympics...

Mother nature way of getting water to the roots (each leaf node). When the leafs are up (cupped) they are working, this is good (this is great)!!!!!!!

Gently pour water onto a cupped leaf and watch where the water goes. It flow straight down the stalk to the leaf node where the tap root structure is. Fantastic engineering. Nearly every drop of water that hits that leaf goes to water that nodes roots.
