I have noticed as the season goes on and i check diaries of those i follow based on things i am trying and things they do and i would like to try. that as the kins get over 400 lbs growers are getting shy/ protective with their photos. its hard to follow post with just numbers sometimes. i would like to see what there shape, size is and some times a photo speeches louder than numbers/words. so for us newbies out here, support future growers and post pictures proudly. Thanks all! good luck and the scales!

Scott, check out Dale M's diary from 2011. He documented growing a 1723 pounder pretty well all the way up to the weigh off. J.D also is very detailed. Plus, since both out of Alaska, you see some pics of stuff we don't have here like Moose eating pumpkins.

Scott , there is alot of sandbagging here . Some growers take different pumpkins to different weigh offs and do not want to show their hand till weigh off time.
I wish I had pictures to show you but nobody wants to see field pumpkins .

I just don't understand why someone would NOT want to let people know how they are doing. I don't have a diary but as a first year grower I'm learning lots, and 90% of what I've learned has come from this site. I don't see how anyone could had done this 15 years ago before internet. Thanks to all who post. By the way, I have a 1303 Sweet going on day 45 with OTT of 309".

Some people are superstitious, they dont want to jinx themselves, also vandals are a factor. They also like to bluff & have fun with it.This is what makes the world interesting.Different strokes for different folks. It's AWL GOOD!

There are many reasons not to post updates. This is a competition hobby.
We were having our local patch tour ( Aug 5th ) and we wanted people to be surprised with the pumpkins. If we would have posted pics and stats this wouldn't have been possible. New pics have been posted.

I don,t get it either!! This is a fun hobby, then people ruin it by lieing about how they are doing . Some do it because if they find out someone has a big one in the area they will go to a differant weigh off to avoid the competition so they can get a prize!! In my opinion, that is POOR SPORTSMANSHIP!!! Just my opinion!! I think of this hobby as a golf game. I'm just trying to get better. I'm not trying to beat any one but my own last years weight!!! Just my opinion!!!

think about this, what kind of thrill would a weigh-off be without all the drama! this is the part of growing for competition, if i knew all the weights and measurments of all the pumpkins that where going to my weigh-off, whats the point of going, i know who will win, and i know who will come in last(me). no thrill there, i remember a couple of years ago, when at the last minute, wow the 1610 shows up now thats excitement! i do not want to know what beast anybody has in their patch! this is the excitement that builds for the weigh off, i like to know what someone is growing, how they grow it, ect... but a late season photo will not help anybody, if you want to know how they grew it at the end of the season, then ask questions then, remember you can only open one gift on x-mas eve.

so, what we are saying ,is not to "sandbag" but give away the weights and measurements (with photo) before the weigh-off? then we might as well mail everyone their trophies and ribbons, this is why most growers do not post photo's later in the season in their diaries ,so they do not have to lie. if someone had a 400 lb watermelon in their patch right now ,would that person be ok with about 200 people a day calling, driving by, trying to see this thing, all the way up to the weigh-off be ok? would other growers want to bring their melons to that weigh-off knowing that theres no chance in winning? i guess that some people can not wait for their presents, and like to spoil other peoples fun and excitement. i'm happy people sandbag! and please do not tell me how big it is, you will ruin my weigh-off and all the excitement that has built up all year, and lying is needed, to keep up my hopes of a chance at the scales! and please dont tell me how the movie ends, i have not seen it yet!!!!
