Can anyone help me to identify what the light brown crust is on my pumpkin's skin? It has a cross hatch type of pattern and a picture is in the last entry in my diary (SoCal Kevin) posted today. It covers about 5 - 10% of the pumpkin. Can I get rid of it, and how? It does seem to scape off with some effort, but it's hard to tell if underneath is healthy skin or if I am also scraping off the top layer of pumpkin skin. Thanks.

Kevin, as your pumpkin gets older the skin gets harder and starts to crack slightly developing scars that looks alot like a cantaloupe because the pumpkin is still growing and stretching. What your seeing is common but not all pumpkins develope these scars. There is nothing that you can do to get rid of the scars that I know of.
Good luck with your pumpkin...looking good! Vince

Have you kept your pumpkin covered? To me it looks like a burn...either UV or Chemical.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The pumpkin has been continuously covered. Sounds like this is just the pumpkin getting older. My skin hasn't improved with age either LOL.

Don't scrape it off Kevin, like Vince said, it is just the skin canteloping and maturing...will still be growing...not worries.

I have been told that the cantaloped ones tend to weigh heavier. Mine was cantaloped last year and went 23% heavy over the chart.
