Hi:
I'm new to trying to grow a giant pumpkin. I'm wondering where is a place to have them weighed. I live in Westerville Ohio.

I guess you would have to find a club that is close to you and join it. I know there is some fantastic clubs in Ohio, hopefully someone from the area will respond to this post and give you some more information.

The Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers Weigh-off at Parks Garden center is a definite must visit weigh-off. Mamy of the top growers in the world will be weighing their best pumpkins there.

Oakland Nursery is the closest to you physically and puts on a terrific weighoff every year. They have a pig roast for the growers before beginning the weighoff. Several Heavy hitters from Northern Ohio will be there as well as typically 20 or so other entrants.

I suggest you go to as many of the above listed ones that you can and enjoy them all. Welcome to the madness.

Thanks everyone for the great info. I'm hoping my pumpkin will keep growing. I only have one now. I'm having problems with squash bugs and cucumber beetles. I go out to my little garden often to hunt for the little buggers. I guess I'll wait to join the SOGPG until I know that I'll have something to show.

your gonna need all the luckluck you can muster.
unfortunately with only one pumpkin and little experience the law of averages is against you however, you will never get any better either if you dont join a club or two, meet some experienced growers and work at the hobby.you need to make a comittment if you plan on staying in the hobby.

this site is great for a question or two but its not the place to learn how to grow a giant pumpkin.

Hi again:
I've joined SOGPG and bigpumpkins.com. I do have a little giant pumpkin growing. The more I read the more I've been learning about all of the mistakes that I've made this year. I planted regular pumpkins last year and had enough little pumpkins for the grand kids, next door neighbor kids and their two cousins. I don't have a farm or a lot of land I just have my little garden. I've planted my giant pumpkins at the end and I let them grow out into the yard. This year is the first time that I've tried to grow a giant pumpkin. I do have one growing but the vine isn't looking very good and whatever is happening is moving down toward the pumpkin. I've been fighting off squash bugs and cucumber beetles. I have not seen any evidence of squash boarers. I doubt that I will have any pumpkins this year at any weigh off but I have been bitten by the "giant pumpkin bug" for sure.

you dont have to bring a pumpkin to attend a weigh off and meet some great people who share the "giant pumpkin bug"

Thx cntryboy! I plan to come and watch at the Circleville and Dublin weigh-off this year even if I don't have a pumpkin.

I need a bunch of education before I'll be ready to try again next year.

I'm going to miss the pumpkin patch tours this weekend. waaah

Hey Pap:
My grandkids call me "Lucky" and when they really want to butter me up they call me "LuckLuck". Anyway, I like how you used the name in your message.
