Hi, I know that most growers at some point unbury the main vine. I just forget when it should be done. In August?

Why do you unbury your vine? Doesn’t keeping it buried help it from SVB?

nekid As far as I know.. We bury the vines to get a second root from each node to become a established. All so to help the plant from getting blown over by the wind. We uncover to see and catch any root rot. or foaming vines. Tconway I thought we bury the vines for SVB too. Until I seen one flying from one leaf stock to anther laying its (devil's spawn) on the bottom of each.

I have heard of growers covering the leaf nodes on the main vine with sand just to get the top roots established, they do it to try and prevent rot on the vine. I just wonder how well it works? Anyone know?

I think the sand is a good idea. I used it on my watermelon vines last year.
