Havent had any real measurable rain for 2 and a half months. Just 4 tenths of an inch a month ago. How is one going to keep a plant or plants alive and keep the pumpkin it self growing? I don't know very frustrating to see plants die off every day and try to keep other alive when you know they could be the next to go. Any ideas on how to keep plants and pumpkins growing in 90 plus heat? any advice much appreciated and good luck to every one else in the rest of the 2012 season.

i just have been driving the gator with a water tank. If i see a plant looking terrible i give it a deep drink. But even with that im losing more and more plants to heat stress. One plus i am seeing is a certain pumpkin variety seems to growing normally even in the drought conditions. Today we got around half a inch of rain and it was the first significant rain since May

I don't worry about drought because I can always water. I cant make the sun come up. The big issue I have is the leaves wilting. I try to get water on the leaves to help with wilt. And I usually have little issue with heat related injury. I try to water every day in smaller amounts while still controling PM.

Same here. It's the entire lower midwest. All of Missouri has been declared a natural disaster which I assume is a way to get aid for farmers, and my dad is in Southern Illinois and it's realy bad there too.

Like Kenny, I have been ok with my patch cause it's only 1200 square feet and I just water. It's the 106 degrees today and 107 tomorrow in Saint Louis that does the damage on my plants.

I have a new PVC watering system this year which is working
out great. I water every morning for about an hour. I just
hooked up a fertilizer pump to the system this morning. I plan
to fertilize for the first time this way tomorrow. Should save
me a ton of time.

Been overhead watering 1/2 hr every evening just before sunset, along with spritzing thru the afternoon when I'm home.
Storms came thru New England yesterday. Seemed to drop a little rain everywhere but my patch.
Feel bad for the big farmersin the drought areas

Finally got some relief here over the last 48 hrs. Just under a inch of rain.
