Will squirrels eat the top of a vine and really not touch the leaves ? Thanks Dave

I generally perform population control of the squirrels and rabbits.
People in my neighborhood feed them. They mean well. They think the varmints are cute and playful.
I see fuzzy trouble-makers. I keep their populations in check.

How do you get rid of the squirrels?

This small squirrel damage on top of vine was not as badas damage in last pic but still was bitten through leaving the interior exposed in a small 2 or 3 inch straight munch and this was at 7 feet of the main. I took the chance of keeping the main with damage and covered it with 2 small tables and a piece of silver tarp and fanned it dry. It never saw sun or rain or moisture all season. This is what it looked like in the end of year after growing my 1156 last year. I live trapped and relocated over 20 to a park on the other sideof I 80 and haven't seen one in the patch all year. Peanuts work just fine. Trapped on every day for 11 days in a row in one stretch. They were nesting in my trees.

The squirrels dig everything up in my gardens and landscaping too.
I think they forget where they burried their nuts, so they just randomly dig.
They are a nuissance.
A park, many miles away, across a river, would be the best location.
