I have just posted to my diary although it may not be up yet.....

http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryView.asp?season=2012&grower=55348&action=L

....a couple of pics of my 852 that is throwing out two leaves at every node. What's the prognosis?

It also has a slighly flattened stem on both sides and is growing terribly slow!

One solution would be to replace with a back up but I planted that back-up elsewhere on the 10th, could I move it?...its a gamble I know but may help incase the 852's symptoms turn out to be bad news.

You can moved it.....I once moved one similar by digging benealth and sliding a plastic sheet below and around the roots and plant to lift the entire thing out of the hole trying not to disturb as much as possible. Then in the new hole you can pull/slide the plastic out from underneath...and water really really good. I would shade it too..... It worked for me...Hope it works for you.
You may also be able to revert your double vine back to a single.....wait to see how the secondaries look off of the plant, you may be able to convert a secondary over to a main and straighten it out. I did this many years ago its in a older diary...Ill get it for reference for you.
Good Luck

Go forward from here...it showZ how to turn a mess into a good plant once again... It worked well....
Unfortunetly the hail got the best of this plant....later on....and American Anti Hail netting was invented....for the WiZardnator....

my MacKinnon 162 started doing 2 leaves at every node, then after six nodes went back to the normal one per node, and has a quite nice small pumpkin on it. Don't know about AG; have not had that happen

Nope, the're there to stay.

Thanks for your help.

I uprooted the back up and replanted it. The roots had not spread much luckily. It's 4 days since transplant and no ill effects. Its next to the potential double viner and I'll have to wait and see how they both pan out.

Thanks again
