Planting early this year seems to have been a big mistake. The rain and clouds just a keep coming! My patch looks more like a mud pit then a pumpkin patch.

We haven't seen sun for the most part for close to 10 days. The rain came and took care of a large amount of our moisture deficit. After tonight's low of 40 F the weather finally appears to be on the upswing. I'm in eastern Pa so the nicer weather is getting close to you as well Kenny, hold on.

Over the past 7 years one of the things I've noticed is that no matter what you do it all evens out in the end. It will be interesting to see how the one plant with no hoop house stands up against the other five with hoop houses.

Clarification: no matter what you do early on. Obviously you dont win the weighoff by watching tv all season.

yep the weather always has us in a tizzy. not to worry because theres not much we can do about it. pretty soon we will be complaining that its been very hot and no rain. thus goes the life of a giant pumpkin grower.there seems to be no happy medium.

Hi Kenny: I know you are about 30 miles away, but if the plants are drowning and you need a replacement, please let me know. I still have 3 in pots. P.S. I think I saw some sun today....

Pap you got that right. The only good thing about adverse weather is the way we adapt to them and we come up with better solutions to fix the little issues that can kill a season. Mike has run into similar problems in past years. The season is always stressful no matter what it does. I'm sure the plants will catch up. as everyone knows the early season is when the plant begins to establish roots and the cold temps can lock up phos. Steven I'm sure my plants will make it I built the soil around the initial planting area about a good 8 inches over an already firm planting area. It seems that my patch is always damp this time of year due to the surrounding water table, The water tends to drain out of that area even with trenches dug. The heaters worked quite well.

You'll be grooming off leaves, arranging vines and saying to yourself like we all do at a certain point in the season "man these plants grow fast"
Longterm forcasts are good Kenny...PB's all around this year.
