I'll be heading down to Detroit in July and I am looking for recommendations about hotels in the downtown area as well as things to do while I'm there. I like to stay in upscale hotels with restaurants etc instead of a Super 8 - but I have stayed in some very nice Best Westerns and Country Suites before too. I will be visiting the Fillmore Theatre (that's my main mission). I know of Comerica Park and Ford Theatre. The pumpkin growers really helped me out with my trip to Boston so I'm seeking assistance once again. Thanks for any suggestions!

You could stay at the Greektown Casino if that's your thing. Very nice eating in the area. If you are driving in you could always stay in Windsor at there casino. Room average $150 night US on the weekend at Greektown. If you have time a trip to The Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield village is a must. You can also take a tour of an Ford Factory. I think they are making the F-150's now.

The Marriot at the Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit is nice, about 179 bucks a night. Word of caution be careful driving in downtown Detroit at night. Always keep your doors locked.

Both are great suggestions above. Staying at Greektown is convienent since there are enough surrounding activities to keep you occupied. Comerica park, Fillmore, fox theatre and the casino are right next to you, not to mention little or no driving. The street Greektown is located on is filled with many different restaurants, from authentic Greek, pastry shops, BBQ joints and a great deep dish pizza place called pizza pappilis. If you have any other questions my email is [email protected] Detroit can be a lot of fun, just bare in mind a lot of the rumors are true. Knowing where your going before hand is a must.

Thanks! I've been looking at that downtown Westin (?) - but maybe I'll check out the casino - they're not really my thing though. Please keep other suggestions coming - I didn't even think about the Henry Ford Museum - that is going to be a "must see" for sure - I think I was there as a young kid with my parents.

If you would like tickets to the Gem theater,it is right by Greektown Casino & Comerica Park.Staying at the Casinos is safe, but dont wander very far of the beaten path.If you drive up I-75 20 minutes you will be much safer in Royal Oak or Birmingham,Troy,Rochester,If you stay downtown, stay in at nite.I can get you tickets to the Gem theater. There very nice people that own it.I'm there Handyman. If you drive another 40 minutes north you can stay in the Kin Cave.LOL!There is a Bed & breakfast 2 blocks from my house, very quaint small town atmosphere.Your Welcome anytime.

lol bnot! I live in an area the postal service won't go to! Privatization and downsizing caused us all to get box service and go pick it up!
