Here in R.I. Its getting damp and its cooler then normal. The plants havent gotten the sun they really need so their growing slow despite being in green houses and being heated. Ive heard that colder conditions lock up phos. In the soil also. Anyoone else seeing this?

Welcome to my world. We had 21 days of measurable rain in April and we have been over 60 only twice this year. I am convinced I live in the worst place in the country for Pumpkin Growing.
By the way its raining right now too. :)

What's the symptom of phos being locked up?

I have noticed that my plants are turning a light "lime" green color instead of a darker green.

G, im not sure what the symptoms are. Before transplanting I always mix a bit of bone meal into the anting sight to aid in early formation of the roots.

The weather is awful up here in NH as well. Plants have been outside for over a week now and are barely growing. Last weekend, temps in the 20's, no sun since. Should have put them out in March when it was 80 degrees!

Not just you guys over the pond. Exactly the same weather here in the UK although sometimes we may get an hour or two of sunshine in between the clouds and it can be enough to warm the pumpkin house to 90F. Not sure about the effect on the soil temperature. My leaves are a little light green too but wouldn't that be due to temperatures affecting nitrogen uptake?
I guess someone with more knowledge will correct me.
Captain, I have read your diary this year and I don't recall seeing an ouce of sun on your patch this year.

Jabronic, As far as the amount of bone meal I just add a small amount just like you'd add your myco. Thats what I do...If the soils cold It seems a bit pointless because nutrients seem to be locked up. Norm I bet that in Johnston it gets damper then us folks in Bristol...lol

Damp, gray periods of rain for the last week or so here in eastern PA.
We desperately needed the moisture however it's planting time now and I've been sitting on my thumbs just waiting.

I hear ya. I'll be adding a bit more heat to the hoophouses in hopes of jumpstarting these bad boys. As everyone knows the season is full of mishaps to get over. No panic button pulled here in R.I. Its jut frustrating to wait and see how the plants do from moment to moment. I'm not even talking about MR. Foamy and father wind or doctor fungus.......oh the pain of it all.........pass the prozac! Lol!

Steady rainfall here all morning. Temp. in my patch is 38. Humidity 76%. Temp. in cloche with just cable on is 47. Temp in greenhouse 69.Pumpkin plants in greenhouse are cozy and showing second leaves. 204 dawson is showing first true leaves. The good thing about this rain is I am collecting a lot of water. I keep full buckets in greenhouse to water with. The greenhouse temp warms the water somewhat. Bad thing is I can't get out to do anything. Will most likely be using heaters when I plant outside.

3.5 inches rain in the last 8 days fields are standing water and mud this on top of record rain and cold for March and April avg night temp 40 degree last night colder maybe can plant by July 1 try the Pacific NW if you really want gloom and doom; colder wetter springs for the next two decades are possible because of the Pacific Decadent Oscillation. no worry, forecasters are just (WAG's) wild as guessers Some sun and sort of dry for the next five days (probably be a record)
