Two of the seeds I started have club roots. Instead of the "normal" single tap(?) root, about 6 roots emerged from the clubbed area. Is there any reason to be wary of plants that have club roots? Can the club root configuration actually be an advantage in some cases?

My experience has been that they produce a very slow growing plant that eventually ends up getting culled. I'd encourage to start up some new seeds. Some people think that using excessive Hydrogen Peroxide in the soaking stage can cause this to happen. I think it is genetic.

Are there pictures of what a club root looks like?

I didn't use hydrogen peroxide. I do have backups by the way. I like the genetics of the seeds with the club roots though. I'm hope the plants grow normally though. Thanks Vineman.
Any success stories with club roots?

Northshore grew his PB I believe with a club root and the 1502 Wallace was a club as well from what I was told.

Yes, my 1421.5 seed from last year started as a club root, got this same great advice from pap and grew it anyways and it ended up being a great plant that grew our 898.

Thanks again pap!!

how we germinate the seeds and the conditions we germinate under can effect how the seedling looks that first week or so of its life.
once they start to feel heat and see sunlite ( natural or artificial) most will straighten out and the true potential of that plant can be experienced so long as that first set of true leaves develope.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll see how the plants continue to grow in the pots. If they both seem to be growing normally and at a decent rate, they should hopefully be good to go.
