Will the main vine grow faster in a flag pattern since there are half as many secondaries draining energy or is the growth rate pretty well fixed?
For instance would it be possible to fill out a 50' x 10' area with a Flag pattern in a similar amount time that you could fill out a 25' x 20 area with a tree pattern.

The more prunning the faster the main will grow.

In my experience with flag patterns, the main vine does not seem to grow any quicker than with regular xmas tree patterns.

It might grow slower with a flag pattern that has 20 ft long secondaries. I'd run the main down the middle-10 ft secondaries

Brooks, Curious to know what the reasoning is behind that? Do you have a theory behind this that would lead you to believe you could get more juice to the pumpkin with that pattern?
