Someone did a post on age group a little while back and it got me thinking. When you started growing, what seed was the must have, the hot seed that everyone thought might grow the world record? Mine was the 1068 Wallace, it stayed that way for some time. It's amazing how this hobby constantly evolves from year to year.

The 567.5 Mombert was the seed to have when I started.

I would also say the 567.5 or the 801.5 Stelts ...two of the greatest orange seed stocks of all time

I spent 16 years trying to grow something big with unproven generic Big Max, Big Moon pumpkin seeds & Hungarian Mammoth squash seeds, and giant banana squash seeds. Then in 1982 I got a hold of my first proven seed-- Howard sent me several to try for 1983, one of which was out of his 1981 world record 493 1/2. What a milestone to get seeds from Howard!

Silly Seeds

When I started this job back in 2006 one of the first duties assigned to me was to help with the Niagara auction in the Spring of '07. I had never been to a message forum board before, let alone a chat room. That first year, Russ Landry and I worked to have an auction that would be both live on BP as well as live in the hospitality room at the seminar, with a silent portion in the weeks leading up the event. What an introduction to this new wave of communication and wacky hobby to say the least! Anyways, the lots were posted and silent bids started coming in prior to the "live" evening. Imagine my surprise when the very first bid I received was $300 on the 1370 Rose! I almost had a fit - "imagine paying that much for a single pumpkin seed" - I thought to myself. I've learned a lot since then ;)

I'm going back a little here...

(574 Mitchell squash'87)-
the grand daddy to the 935, 723,
845, 1068 and other pumpkins and squash. Responsible for Len Stellpflugs squash records of the time. Gancarz seed line going back to the 70's.It's the one seed I would love to
see grown by the top guys today...really ahead of it's
time.

Also have to mention 616 and 575 Dill from '88- Both seeds grew a World Record and a few state records. Dill seed line.
