Way too early for our area to think about seeds yet. Usually last week of April for us and in the patch (heated hoophouse)in first weekend of May.

We don't keep them in the pots any longer than past 1st true leaf stage.

Even a five gallon container will be badly rootbound if you start them now with plans on setting outside more than a month from now.

Good for you, Curt! The great thing about tomatoes, as opposed to pumpkins, is you get to eat the losers!

If this monster early spring continues, I'm going to roll the dice and start some seeds on Easter Sunday. It will probably snow the next day.

i think we need to take advantage of this freakish warm weather. i dont see it turning back anytime soon.
im not advocating a crazy early start because you still have a growing period to consider and would not want pumpkins all done growing and sitting there in late august however, i think starting a week earlier than normal might be in order.

i know one thing for sure. in twenty plus years of growing i have never been able to work my soil ,etc, like we have already been able to do this year.gotta mean something.

look around you will see birds already nesting and looking for mates, perenials up really early, buds on the trees as well.
all great signs for a super spring.

Rub it in Pap, rub it in. Here on the coast I'm getting ready to plant rice as soon as this morning's snow disappears. Not a hope of an early start in the patch here this year.

Ah, we have also had an early spring... but... last night we got about 2 inches of snow, 25 degrees, and strong winds. I wouldn't do it unless you have a seriously good poly-tunnel setup, with auxiliary heat, and then some.

Pap, as long as you have a free week ahead, any chances of you coming down & helping me out for a couple days? Peace, Wayne
