With the GPC Annual Meeting over for 2012 and the Niagara Meeting of the GVGO now ongoing, I thought I might as well make my recommendation now for the 2013 meeting site. For personal reasons, I am recommending Altoona, Pennsylvania, Home of the Horseshoe Curve. You could not go to a better spot for next years meeting. And let me say right up front, my recommendation has nothing to do with the fact that I live 3 miles away. My suggestion is a totally unbiased one. Everyone I have spoken with, they all live here, are all in total agreement with my suggestion. In fact, they love the idea. So GPC Board, think about Altoona as the spot for 2013. Some of you might bring up the fact that we could have 2 feet of snow on the ground at the time of the meeting but we say "sour grapes" to that. And any complaints about no airplanes landing anywhere near here should also not be given consideration. Altoona for 2013!!!! Marv

andy, aren't you going to make a pitch for Honesdale? might be 4 feet of snow there at that time of year though, and Altoona has a hooters.

Only if I get dibs on the (your) guest bed AND the couch (hubby snores like a congested chainsaw that needs sharpening), I'll gladly vote for Altoona, Marv.

I think it should be held in Hinckley MN. I'm sure the local Casino would be glad to host it! Everyone can stay in my greenhouses. We can move the plants out and line up cots! Think of the comradery! There is a woodline close by for Auntie. We rarely have 2 ft of snow, but it could be 40 below zero (C or F doesn't matter cause the scales cross at -40). What do you think?

I'd bet there's a 99.8% chance Vegas will be the place...maybe for quite a long time.

yep, Vegas just makes the most sense. i would suggest Napa but the average hotel room is ...oh...probably $225 a night. LV is easy to get to and has affordable rooms and food. But i would love to see an upgrade from the Circus Circus. The Tropicana? the Encore? Rio? Excalibur? The weather was pleasant and they have all the meeting space you could ever need. hard to beat! sure did have a great time and i expect to see many more attendees next year!

Vegas and Altoona. They have a lot in common, lets see, they're both on the same planet. I think!

Don't sell Altoona short. We have the Railroad Museum. We have a Convention Center that has been here for about 10 years and is hardly even used. Our crime rate is fairly low too. There is not a lot of traffic. We have a couple of nice restaurants. These are just a few of the things we have going for us.

Mud,
I agree with you brother. I have personally ridden the Horseshoe Curve while spraying weeds on that line several years back. Altoona Rocks!

I'd love to check out another part of this great continent!! Vegas was a blast....and I do hear rumblings of a repeat there next year....but after that I think it could be wide open, and a change to Altoona or somewhere else would be great!!

Wiz, Biz and Myself have talked about this and we vote we have it at our buddies house, Eddy Z's next year, then Altoona the following year.
I heard Eddy already has in his basement a bowling alley and a hooters restaurant, he also has over 20 sixteen gallon kegs of beer already tapped at any giving time of the year, and that's just for himself! We think that's way to much beer for one person to drink by his self and think we all need to help him drink it to try and save his liver for the future.
Oh, plenty of parking space also, park anywhere in his front yard or any of his neighbors front yard for 2 blocks, and don't worry about tearing up the grass, Eddy has a 4 wheel drive and will pull everyone out just in case they happen to get stuck. All Eddy would ask is don't block the neighbors drive ways so they can get out, please park on their front lawn.
See you all at Eddy Z's in 2013! HIP HIP HOORAY!

i think silver creek n.y. would be a great place to consider as well. theres a park right smack dab in the middle of town ( complete with a lighted fountain ) an old movie theater thats been closed for 40 years, only one light in the middle of town as well- ( so no traffic worries either) plus its right on the shores of lake erie. pap

Forget Altoona. Eddy's sounds good to me. Also it would make up for the long drive he had to take this year. I'd be willing to drive all the way from Altoona to Eddy's just to see what it looks like up there. Thinking about it, Altoona wouldn't be that great anyway. They closed down the only house of ill repute so there isn't all that much to do here now anyway unless you want to stand around outside the barnyard and watch what the cows are doing.. Marv

We just want to correct one thing. The Niagara International Convention is hosted by the Port Elgin Chamber of Commerence. The format & info is provided for the growers, by the growers. It's not the GVGO's Niagara meeting. The GVGO sponsors the hospitality room on the Friday & Saturday evenings. The GVGO has it's own Spring Seminar on April 14th, in the Picton area. This promises to be another great event. Everyone is invited to join us though. Just let us know your coming. Good luck. Jane & Phil

Brooks, I don't have a bowling alley, but I have a shuffleboard table, 4 acres for parking, 20 minutes to Calgary International Airport, 36.32 minutes to Hooters, and 5.13 minutes to the beer store. Only catch is,it could be minus 40.

Eddy, we wouldn't want to park on your 4 acres!..you kidding me?.... that's your pumpkin growing area's and compaction of your soil from parking on it could ruin your soil for good!
Not only that, when I come there to park, I would want my Fred Sanford pick up truck leaking oil, transmission fluid or to be dropping 10 inch pieces of rust that falls off my truck when the wind blows more then 1 mile hr on areas that your going to be planting your best pumpkins.
Eddy,You take care of the beer and food, and let me worry about the weather and parking,,,,I Got this under control.
