We've made our adjustments to the app to incorporate the new 2012 ott chart. The upgrade also allows entry of decimal places. This upgrade will be available once apple approves it and is free to current users. It is available for $3.99 to new users from the apple store. Sorry, no droid support.

Sadly the cost of expanding into growth curve tracking and benchmark data is more than the total 2011 sales. If enough iPhone users would consider a financial contribution it could be considered. Thanks for your support.

Hi, I wanted to give a little feedback about the app.

I like the app, however, the only thing it saves me is adding three numbers together and looking at a spreadsheet. To be honest, I was hoping that it could be used to track weekly growth of my pumpkins by just entering the three measurements for each pumpkin once a week. As an added bonus having a growth chart for each pumpkin would be great.

I don't regret buying the app because I want to support the overall effort especially because I'm an engineer and grower myself. However, with that said, I probably wont use it much because I maintain a growth table for each pumpkin and adding numbers and referring to a chart only takes a few seconds.

Hi,

I should of read your whole entry before commenting. I see that you wrote, "expanding into growth curve tracking and benchmark data".

In my humble opinion, the app is only useful if it can be used to track the growth.

I'll wait until the features are added and it can run on Honeycomb. :) (android 3.0) Keep plugging (coding).

Orangeneck what kind (amount) of support are you looking for? How many new apps sold do you need to continue to the next level? I would gladly pay for an upgrade that would track growth for multiple pumpkins over the season. I bought this app when it first came out with the understanding it would be developed futher. At this point all it does is replace one sheet of paper. Maybe if we knew what kind of commitment was needed maybe people would buy the app as is so it can get to the next stage. Or maybe if existing users of the app would commit to paying for an upgrade something could be done. I would hate to see this just fizzle away.

As the Wiz suggested above, I will have a mobile/web site app available soon. You will have the option to use any mobile phone to track pumpkins or other vegetables users like to grow giant. It will track percentage growth and use the new table Andy W. published. It will also be available to users who just want to use the web site. There will be the ability to export your results to excel from the web site that you can login to from your desktop or phone. I will make the application available on http://tools.pumpkinfanatic.com in hopefully a few weeks.

Hello!

As the iPhone app developer, I thought I should give some feedback on the current "state of app" and its "future".

First & foremost, I have every intention of continuing to update the existing iPhone app as the "accepted" calculation charts/formulas are revised and continue to make gradual improvements. If you've bought the app - these updates will always be 'free' of charge. The next release has some email functionality built in - to make it easy to email yourself the calculations for external tracking.

The app was never intended to be a growth tracking system. For two main reasons.

1) If you're *really* into tracking statistics - you're probably using a custom spreadsheet and for the same reason the app is of little value now would most likely be the case because no matter how good the stats are in the app - it still won't be as great as your spreadsheet. Also, the iPhone has a small user interface to work with. I've not personally come across many apps that do a great job with stats.

2) Phones are easily lost, damaged or replaced. If tracking growth statistics is important to you then using method that offers more reliable persistent storage is a necessity. I have no problem linking the app to an external storage method to recover your data but see reason 1. This process would also require a username/password/recovery, etc.

PART 2... =)

As a programer, Objective-C (iPhone/iOS code) is like a 5th language for me. Because I am not proficient in this language feature requests take longer to build. I do own a business that does this type of development but the Pumpkin App only sold 27 copies to date and that makes it hard to commit resources to developing an extensive set of features.

That said, my "1st language" is web application development. If there is interest in developing a parallel application that is web based but smart desktop/phone/tablet friendly that is feature rich with stats, tracking, aggregated weather data, etc... I would be interested in developing this at a release cycle. Jim/OrangeNeck, originally told me something like this was underway w/ BigPumpkins or another user and I do not want to duplicate efforts or compete with another user on a 'hobby' project.

Thanks for your support of the app!

Dave

You say "The app was never intended to be a growth tracking system" but I guess I got the idea it would be including tracking of data in the near future because of this post http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=3&p=396759
but I guess now you say it makes no sense to do that. I can see that it makes no sense financially but I always thought it was the intention to include growth tracking.

Maybe I have growth tracking confused w/ statistical analysis? If by growth tracking you mean storing & displaying historical tabular data:

Pumpkin A, June 1, 2012, Measurement, Estimated Weight
Pumpkin B, June 1, 2012, Measurement, Estimated Weight
Pumpkin A, June 8, 2012, Measurement, Estimated Weight
etc...

Yeah, that's not a huge deal to build w/ the understanding that when your iPhone is destroyed in some form - so is your data. Is this a really desired feature? However, the statistical analysis of that, charts, plotting, etc... is what I am referring to by growth tracking.
