I see people doubting that this is only different spelling for Trinidad Scorpion Morouga Blend. Does anyone know if they are the same? If not both are pretty hot stuff anyway.

The Mouruga blend is an F 1 hybrid The peppers used to make this cross are the Butch T Trinidad and the 7 pot pepper. These are the red colored fruit, the yellow strain of the Mouruga is reportedly to be even hotter but the consistency in each pod is still unstable.

I've always wondered how they judge the "worlds hottest". is it a single pepper, a series of them grown over different situations? The reason I ask is that I can grow a jalapeno that will blow a habenero away if I like. I've grown ghosts that are tolerable( won't put you in hospital) & have grown some ghosts that are basically unusabe because they are so hot by basically manipulating the water they take in. Sometimes when I see youtube clips where folks eat ghosts I wonder if they've grown them & manipulated the heat so it's not as hot as they want you to believe.

Thanks Andy, I know how the scoville unit is figured but I'm sure Eddy can understand what I'm saying when I say although a jalepano is listed at 5000 scovills it would be very easy to bump that up to 50,000 easily.

I don't know if they're allowed to manipulate the plants to make them hotter, Also not sure how many plants need to be grown to test. I'll ask the university for a set of rules and regs for determining a scoville rating

Linus, bear and pepper spray are becoming very popular and that's why the push for hotter and hotter peppers. Can you imagine getting sprayed in the eyes with a 2 million scoville pepper. The Habanaro was the old pepper spray standby at 360,000. so close to 6 X as strong, PS Don't be touching or WIPING any SENSITIVE body parts after handling these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

These are the other names for the Ghost Pepper. It is said to be 300 times hotter than a jalepeno and hotter than a habenero by far.
Bhut Jolokia aka Naga Jolokia (Hottest naturally grown pepper)

Marv Those were the hottest peppers and first to break the 1,000,000 scovilles, but since then the Trinidad Butch T and now the moruga scorpion have the world record.

Marley, you actually gave your son some of the dried powder. Your crazy. lol Wiz, when you grow them you will see most bees stay away. there are bugs it don't seem to bother. Marv if you go to http://www.superhotchiles.com/ he has them, theier not cheap. This is the guy that sent the seeds to the University to grow that broke the record. His Butch T's are also authentic.

I've read the article posted above and one other one about this pepper and they explain that it has a mean heat level of 1.2 million scoville (average value), and some individual plants had peppers at 2 million scoville. They took 125 plants of each variety - trinidad moruga scorpion, trinidad scorpion, 7 pot, chocolate 7 pot, and bhut jolokia, then randomly selected mature fruit from several plants (doesn't say exactly) for testing to get a mean (average) heat value.

Thanks Scott, 125 plant is a lot to choose from. I received a report on a yellow moruga hit close to 3 million. but was the only one. The seeds were removed and will be planted very soon for testing in the fall
WIZZY. Peppers don't need insects to pollinate, they are like tomatoes. they self pollinate and if you grow in a ghreenhouse you just need to shake the plant and in natutre, the wind does it. Most of the SERIOUS growers keep insects away and don't want cross polination. A bell pepper will cross with any of these hot ones.
