See one or see a picture of one. Get the urge. Read a how-to book or info online (later on). Buy a seed or get one free (old days). Prepare your soil. Plant your seed. Do some things right and some things wrong. Learn. Load up pumpkin. Go to contest. Look around and smile or cry. Get ribbon or not? Go home. Read and plan and work. Talk to other growers. Get free seed from successful grower (better than you). Prepare soil. Read more and talk to other growers more. Make changes in plan. Put more stuff in soil. Plant seed. Water, weed, bury vines, prune, fertilize, spray. Load up pumpkin. Go to contest. Smile or cry. Ribbon? Bragging rights? Maybe you did better than Iceman or better than last year or maybe not. Always next year. This is how it went for quite some time. What happened?

For the most part, things are STILL that way. The pumpkins simply got larger and the growers more competitive. Sure I have fun with the mud, sweat, and tears, but I want to taste victory on occasion.

its just winter. nothings happening so that's what happening around here lately. its a big pot and too many got hands on spoons stirrin' it up. dissention is ugly. i know one thing, all the things you mentioned above are still how it works in my book. this romper room stuff ends when the soil warms up. romper stomper bomper boo....tell me tell me tell me who cares about this negative crap? i don't.

And this is just 1 good example of the part I really like about growing these Giants. I like people like Shazz, Dave Stelts, Dick Wallace, and the list goes on that make you bust out laughing that makes this hobby fun. These are the growers I like to be around, they just have fun growing and make it that much more fun for other growers as well. This is still a great hobby with a bunch of great people in my book.
