When collecting rain water during these winter months how do u keep it from turning green and not hurting the water?

I use a 2000 gal clear polly holding tank myself and i dont think green is bad , but i do know that green will plug filters and eventualy the emmitters on the drip lines themself. i add small amounts of regular bleach once a week and use a fish tank areator with that line weighted and setting on the bottom of the tank ...it helps ..but i am going to cover the tank with a tarp this year to see if that works as well..i like it uncovered cause it warms the water...good luck
