Since diamonds are forever, why hasn't anyone considered giving the number one pumpkin grower each year a diamond pumpkin ring. Winners of the Super Bowl, World Series etc etc all get a nice ring to commemorate the event and so why not the winning pumpkin? Would one carat be too small? Maybe the Libby Pumpkin People would cough up the cash? A ring could be worn anywhere except in the garden as you might want to protect it. It would never end up curbside. If the winner was a male grower, he could give it to his wife for putting up with the time he spent in the garden. If there was a problem with raising the cash, it could just be a nice gold ring with a spot for the grower to insert his own diamond maybe even using some of the cash he or she has won along the way? Just doing a little brainstorming here. You can wear a ring anywhere but not a jacket or a plaque. Come to think of it, how much money could the GPC raise selling pumpkin jewelry? Enough to fund the ring? LOL.

Problem with rings is the varying price of metal and people's metal allergies... think the Blazer is enough. :)

People are allergic to maybe tin, zinc, lead or copper but not many are allergic to 14K gold. Anyone out there allergic to gold? As for price, clubs could just sell more seeds if the price of gold rises? LOL. Marv

I can already see it now on Pawn Stars... some guy walks in and tries selling a fake 2013 WR pumpkin\GPC ring. Chumlee is about to write up the ticket for top dollars, but The Old Man steps in, calls Chum an idiot, and tells him it's a fake.

Yes Marv, I can break out from 14k depending on the alloy. You'd have to use Platinum or Titanium to be safe about it, those are the two metals of last resort. (snort-hahahaha Luke)

A ring is not obtrusive, and can be worn every day. An orange jacket, on the other hand, is typically not worn at all after the awards ceremony. At least, I wouldn't wear it to work or to church, lol...

I like the ring. A big orange center stone surrounded by small green emeralds. Not sure what stone is orange. Probably not that expensive though but would look nice.

Orange Sapphire or Orange Tourmaline. Google is good.

Pap likes the ring idea! Anyway the stones mentioned above are reasonable in price. Diamonds are much more expensive. There could be some writing on the ring like on the World Series Ring, that is raised, and could say something like 2011 World Pumpkin Champion or something else. The whole thing would most likely be less than $500 and this could be gotten by lowering the dollar prize going to the winner.

A emerald would make a nice melon ring

I like that idea Marv, the ring could be similar to the High School class rings. You can get them at reasonable prices and the rings last a life time.
Kinda like this
