I'm still a very new grower and my success last year was the result of using hail netting. We get at least 8 hail storms a year where I live.

I purchased my hail netting here: American Clay Works & Supply Compnay 857 Bryant Street, Denver, CO 1-800-873-2297 and you can see the netting installed here: http://www.pumpkinfanatic.com/hail-netting-video/

This truly has become a fun hobby for my family and there are so many growers willing to help and share information. For those of you who have been provided me seeds and advice.....Thanks! I hope to set a personal best in 2012

Great resources guys, thanks.

Any thoughts on optimal percent shade? My plant got "sunburned" a lot last year, and I'm thinking this net will double as sun protection.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Thought I would kill two birds, Protect from hail and get some shade But I was only thinking something low like 10 to 15% shade. Cheaper would be nice.

Wont shade cloth give hail protection?

Certain growers in Quebec have a lot of success with 22% shade cloth.

OESCO in Conway Mass, is carrying a 15ft wide roll, I believe it is 300ft long. I myself am using some used tobacco shade cloth. Should be some picts on my diary from this year. Just be sure to take it off before the snow flies.. oopps!
