What a great ride Ron had with this great pumpkin. Here is what Ron had to say about this pumpkin in an earlier post.
"Thanks for all the kind words. It split the pinhole after we received 4 inches of rain during a run in the 40's per day. Was still gaining 30 pounds per day at 1700, then the weight dropped off from air getting inside. A little bit of water and rot just started to form on the bottom so it's a good thing I decided to remove seeds. Hurricane left us with no power for almost a week so I was not able to weigh it. I was very happy with the overall thickness of the pumpkin. Final measurments on day 66 were 200-120-121." Ron This seed could be the one that breaks that one ton barrier. The 2011 Wallace seeds including the 1789 Beast seed are listed in a silent auction on the Seed auction and Raffle message board. All proceeds will be used for the Kentucky Seminar March 3, 2012.

If this pumpkin went 12% heavy or got to grow to 90 days it would go over 2,000 pounds. 441 ott in 66 days is smokin'.

"If this pumpkin went 12% heavy or got to grow to 90 days it would go over 2,000 pounds."
Except for one pumpkin, no pumpkin estimated over 1600 lbs has ever gone heavy (ie. over the 5% variable of the charts). The only one that did only went 7%. The simple reason is that the 2008 charts are not accurate over 1600 lbs because there weren't many 1600 lb pumpkins out there in 2008 to use as data.
The chance is much greater that the 1789 would have gone (significantly) lighter if actually weighed like some others have in that estimated range.

Secondly, we don't know if a pumpkin weighing 2000 lbs can actually support itself. By the amount of damaged 1700s the past few years, the chance is highly unlikely. If it did, it would be a freak, have a weird shape and/or probably not estimate anywhere near 2000 lbs.

I was very happy with the overall thickness, especially on the bottom and sides. It would have been interesting, maybe a bit light as based on the history of top end growth pumpkins, but not "significantly".

"THE FREAK'' 1789 Wallace. Its Still a freak by size and maybe also it could have very easily been by weight if she made it to the end of its growing days. I don't think one can never say it wouldn't have gone over 2000lbs or saying it would have went lighter, because in this hobby anything does amazingly always happen and then the numbers go out the window.
Back in the day growers didn't know if pumpkins over 1500 lbs would support themselves ether, because of the same gravity theory, but we all know that theory has been proven wrong, and as far as the 1600 to 1800 lb pumpkins that are being grown today, gravity hasn't shown its ugly head to them pumpkins ether. And with just 200lbs more to grow to hit 2000lbs, I really think it will be likely that you will see a pumpkin over 2000lbs that wont be a freak with a weird, flat shape to them.
How can you not look at that 1789 pumpkin ((with Ron's kid sitting next to it)) and not Say "GESHHHH-ZUSSSS CRIMEANNEEYY that pumpkin is HUGE!
Ron, that is your 5 year old kid next to that 1789 right?..he looks just like you,,,LOL

Ron, if following accepted growth charts, and accepted normals for light/heavy to the chart,(5%, I think) what would this "FREAK" have weighed at 90 days? Peace, Wayne

In the link below is a picture of Ron's 6 year old son Little Ronnie Jr.(wearing Buffalo Bills attire) which is also is (Dick Wallace) Pap's grandson.
The picture (below) was taken soon after Little Ronnie Jr. got off the School Bus. Ron said Little Ronnie Jr cried for months after it went down and hasn't really got over it since. Ron has since then found his boy the very best 1st grade counselor of Rhode Island School systems.
And also said that since then, Little Ronnie Jr's electric shock treatments that they give him 6 hrs a day non stop has really helped out substantially, and predicts he will be on the road to a full recovery since the terrible (although small) split of the 1789 occurred in October. Which is good news.
