I am looking to get a heated propagator so as to get started early next year. I seem only to find ones that will maintain a soil temp of 19c/66f. In many of the discussion and books the optimum soil temp for propagation I believe is around 85f is this the case? If so can anyone recomend a good fairly priced started propagator?

Try looking for a "seedling heat mat" or "seed germination mat" on the internet. Farm supply stores usually carry them in late winter. Make sure you plug it into a thermostat. The mats can heat up to over 105 degrees Fahrenheit and cook your seeds.

In early April it´s still cool outside (here in Germany), and therefore we are still heating inside. I just let the pumpkin seeds live with us in comfortable 21-22°C, the pots adjust to that temperature without additional heating costs, and there´s no danger for the seeds of being cooked. In the past two years this has worked nicely, and therefore I don´t see the need for buying such equipment in my case.

I use an egg incubator and it works great. You can adjust the temperature to whatever you want. I use 85 degrees F for my giant pumpkin seeds.
