Anyone have any idea what the seed will be in 2012? Whats the most sought after seed and the most interesting cross.

May I make a suggestion? I have crossed the 924 Wittmann (1385 Jutras x 1161 Rodonis) with the 1098 Moretti (1385 Jutras x 1161 Rodonis). Must admit that this just cannot be the most interesting cross, but it could be a cross of interesting potential (and needs a bunch of growers in various places to reveal this potential, of course). As to how sought after it will be just depends on you all out there. Haven´t got the seeds out of it, want to get an official weight first, but there might be some decent seeds in it, as the pumpkin had 106 days after pollination.

Certainly not 1495 Stelts or 1605 Sweet...so if you have one just get rid of it by mailing it off to me at P.O. box.... ;-)
the 1495 grew the 1807 and the 1605 sweet grew the top 4 pumpkins at Stillwater Harvestfest. 1725 Harp has a good showing in the top 100, too. then the 1161 Rodonis, 1385 Jutras, and 1421 Stelts will be harder to find because they have been popular for a couple years already.

if the 1657 Marsh 2011 pollinating plant was the same 1674 plant that grew the 22% heavy 1342 marsh...then look out for the 1657 for monster big and 9% heavy from the 1605 x the 22% heavy 1674 Marsh genetics. This could be a very nice big x heavy cross that could be used to cross with monster shell genetics like ron wallace's 1789 dmg 2011. I love looking at all the new great crosses and just dream of potential. With the success of the 1605 first year out, I imagine you will see many heavy hitters trying unproven killer 2011 crosses as well as those solid true proven producers listed above. The 1303 sweet seed is also another to throw on the proven list for consistency of big and heavy also.

I know I will be planting my crosses next year that where pollinated with the 27% heavy 901 HUNT from 2010. The 965 Grande, and also the 1046 Grande. Planted only twice this year we can really see the HUNT geneticsa come thru. Thanks Janko! If it was only grown in the orange belt.........Hmmmmm

In addition to some of the seeds mentioned earlier, there were some clone crosses done last year that I think are very intriguing and could have big potential. There is also the Wallace pumpkin that was on it's way to potentially going over 2,000 that never had the chance to hit the scale that could be an interesting seed.

Mr heat, theres quite a few new crosses that could be great. The genetic potential gets more stacked every year. I see about 8 of them that stand out-one of them being shazzys pick. So I'll second the 1657 marsh.Brooks what do you like???

I like the 1684 Urena which was crossed with the 991 Urena which gtew his 1704. This should produce good color and the chance of over the chart weights.

I think the 1675 Hopkins should be given a chance. It seems to have sat the bench a lot this year. Anyone else grow it besides me? I'd be interested in the results.

1675 won't be riding the bench around here next year. We got a sniff this year and it was good. There were a few nice ones out there.

1303 Sweet grew 1605 Sweet 2010 15% heavy, 1420 Platte 2010 9% heavy, 1693 Bordsen 2011 2% Heavy, 1560 Urena 2011 13% Heavy, then all the 1605s grown this year in the top 50 are all heavy, as much as 16%. Seems like the 1303 genetics are good ones are in the run for top to look at. When ever you bring the 1161 genetics back to it in the pollinator, it goes heavy.

the 1684 will see many homes as well no doubt. I hope seed counts are good this year on all these fantastic new crosses. With the high heat in the Midwest, seed counts I imagine will be on the lower side on many of them I fear.

I think we all know most of the hottest seeds for 2012, and some of the new crosses that should do well. A few jump out that haven't been mentioned. 1532 Pugh- 1622 Young x 1161 Rodonis. If I'm not mistaken the pollinator grew his 1794 DMG. 1580.5 Starr- 1596 Werner x 1725 Harp- pollinator grew 1610 Starr, 1502 Daletas- 1725 Harp x 898 Knauss. That's just good math. I can't imagine there are any more 898 seeds out there. I don't know about % heavy or light- Harley Sproule's 1650 went -11 on a 1421 Stelts and Quinn Werner's 1587.5 went + 14 on a 1421 Stelts. But we can save that arguement for another day.

How about this one: 1630 Revier = 1605 sweet x 1810 stevens 1630 was 15% heavy and the second largest grow on the 1605 1810 grew the 1451 revier: 10% heavy and the largest offspring from the 1810.

scott_kim_west_iowa that is an interesting comment you made about putting the 1161 back into a cross as the pollinator.

Awesome Nana! Dave has always been a keystone and foundation to what this hobby has grown to and what it will become in the future. A visionary of sorts that has inspired me to grow the Illinois pumpkin scene besides just growing my own pumpkins. My hats off to Dave and all he has done. For those who want to understand the "Got Stelts?" Just put "got stelts" in the bp.com search. You will see his magic 2000 season and affinity to orange and big over the last decade. Keep up the great work Dave and thank you!!!

Of course any of the unabrows seeds, hell just put em all in a hat and pick one out to grow one to over 1600 to 1700 lbs,,ha! hell it don't matter as long as it says stelts it grows,,, BIG ...ha! I like the 1807 Stelts, Dave's pollinator plant he used was off his 1243 plant that grew his 1351 Stelts that went 20% heavy.
also the 1596 and 1631 Werner, the 1520 Sperry is definitely another.
OHHH,,,and here's a seed for ya Joe, 1502 Daletas 11' (1725 Harp x 898 Knauss)...best old school / new school cross ive ever seen! And since the 1725 comes in a tad light....sometimes,, that the 898 Knauss should fix that problem all together to make that 1502 seed go HEAVY. LOL
And heres the last 2 seed Joe, and Im with Shazzy on this also about the 1789 Wallace Seed, the 1789 was 441 inches on August 15th! And at 1700 pounds Rons pumpkin was still doing 30lbs a day!!.. That's so crazy big it makes me laugh every time I think about it!! It was so big it made 6'2 Ron Wallace look like a 5th grader when he was sitting next to it,,ha! I gotta grow that seed,
Pap Wallace did use pollen from Rons 1725 Harp plant that grew his 1789 lber on his own 1725 Harp plant that grew Pap a 1647 dmg at 15% HEAVY.(1647 had a soft spot)
so the 1641 Wallace 11' (1725 Harp x 1725 Harp).
and the 1789 Wallace 11'
Hows that Joe?,, lol

The seeds maybe to look at are the 1404 Bryson, produced the new world record of 1818.5 lbs. Or a 1341 Wallace same cross as the 1404 Bryson.
