I am looking for the “best of the best” pumpkins grown this year regarding color and shape. I am interested in cloning a plant that produced a great looking pumpkin. I have one Howard Dill Award winning pumpkin, and I am now looking for another.
If growers could post links to pictures and/or e-mail them to me along with the weight of the pumpkin and the genetics that would be helpful. I will look at the pictures and information and make a selection, as I do not have enough space or time to clone them all. Plants that have actively growing vine tips are all that is needed; no roots required.
Frosts are starting to show up, so I realize growing seasons are coming to an end, but I just wanted to toss this idea out there.

I don't know if Mr. Gerhardt is interested, but the pumpkin in the following pic has very nice color, and awesome shape. That barrel shape is a "classic" pumpkin shape, like a giant Howden.

Doug14, nice looking pumpkin. I like that it's round on the bottom.

Cindy, (cloning) He doesnt need seeds, just active vine tips if you still have the plant. you still could be in the running. :-)

what type of cutting is required to produce a clone and what needs to be done immediately after to ensure that it lives? There are some viable parts of my plant left but if you need an established root system and leaves on the same vine I'm not sure.

My son won the prettiest pumpkin award at Anamosa. Weighed 839.5, was a selfed 1351 Trumm. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=171106 http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=169002 http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=171405 It has been hit with light frost 3 times, so I don't know if there is much live vine left.
