Are there any good articles out there for a novice to learn how to interperet a soils test and determine what to do to bring a patch to ideal conditions.

There is some pretty good info at western labs website.
Some of their links are specific to AG's as well.
Jon generally speaks at our spring seminar and is very informative. Worth taking a look at.
BTW...will you be going to Christiansons tomorrow?

Thanks, I will check out the western labs site.

I wasn't even aware of that event. Pretty funny since I drive past Christianson's pretty much every weekend when I head over to Oak Harbor. I took my only pumpkin down to the Puyallup fair last month. Have you gone to Christianson's Before? How big of pumpkins do they usually get there?

sorry, I went to drop off my pumpkin and then went to the OH football game.

This is the first year for this weigh off. The staff seemed very excited about the potential to turn it into a yearly event. I think this might replace the Snohomish weigh off that we used to have.

A&L Labs West does a good job, and they have a category for 'giant pumpkins' and you can have them give you recommendations on how to amend. ...

I all ready did my test through U-mass. I was pretty dissapointed with their recommendations. They just said to add 40 # / acre of N,K %P at planting time. I am going to try and figure out what to do on my own. Found some good info on the western lab site. I think I know where I would like to have my ppm 3s at. Now I just need to figure out how to calculate how many #'s of each nutrient ias required for the requisite ppm adjustment.
