Not sure if this rule is meant to be taken lierally or not:

4) Howard Dill award- This award will be given to the grower of the prettiest,
symmetric, orange or orange-red pumpkin.....

Orange , or orange red seems to be forgotten sometimes.

It's true, it's supposed to be for color as well. ...

In a small offering of entries, would you NOT award it if the weighoff has one?

In a large field it's not hard to have an ORANGE beauty...

Deb, you are asking the wrong person.

"A) The GPC rules will be strictly enforced for weights, fruit
soundness, certification of scales, and color as stated herein."

Ask the GPC.

with out checking I think the rules sy it must be an AG and over 300lbs. I was robbed in 2008.

sometimes the rules do not apply.....the folks that run their weigh-offs can bend em if needed..........keep in mind that there are many weigh-offs that do not have 60 fruits......looking like we will be fortunate to have 6 fruits this year as the weather has wiped out most of them in this area....so one will get the howard dill award and will up to the crowd to decide

CPG rules are just guide lines and need to be adjusted as needed

When one pumpkin shows up to your struggling weigh-off you better believe it's pretty!!

I agree with Lisa, with bad weather/season... we do say we have to have two to award it, so there's something to compare. We did not award the counterpart as the other one was a DQ (Brown Bag award)

Thanks for clearing thisup for me, and all growers around the world.

I don't think we cleared up anything. If a 275 pound super orange pumpkin shows up to our weighoff, and all the rest are 600+ astroid looking pumpkins, then the 275 will likely win the HD award. Of course at our weighoff (Doylestown PA) every grower gets to vote. That changes everything. I don't like the way a lot of weighoffs choose their HD winner. The way we do it makes it more fair in my opinion.
