just use a dry soft cloth to polish.you will get disqualified if you use any cooking oils.

Use a soft cloth as as stated above. After the weighoff olive oil or others can be used to create a magnificent shine however I have noticed in the past that they tend to attract gnats and other bugs if the weather stays warmer.

I used Pledge furniture polish one year on a 5-600 lb'er...made it more slippery than a greased pig...had one heck of time getting a tarp under her...every time we attempted to roll her over, she skidded along the ground! LOL!

Any thoughts on using "Wilt-Proof" to seal the pores of the fruit??

folks who have to move the pumpkins really do not enjoy the miscellaneous chemicals and concoctions on the skin.

best to pick the fruit a day before oor the day of weigh-off ------ you dont loose much weight that way. if its going on a long trip in open air truck or trailer? and, you think you might have a contender?, id put a wet blanket over the pumpkin ---then cover with a tarp/tie down for the trip.
wilt proof does work well but we have not used it in years.
its expensive and leaves a very sticky touch to the fruit.
