For those of you that dont get the sngpg newsletter.Ron had the mother of all pumpkins that went down to a small split.I suspect the final weight(had it held) may have had a 2 at the front. My condolances. That baby had the "wow factor".

The newsletter has a picture of ron sitting in front of the fruit. It looked big enough for him to crawl inside and sit out hurricane irene without being cramped.63 days old,appr.1740 lbs, still growing 28/day.Had a blossum one third sag line that opened a hole on top.Similar situation to dale m's monster.

a pleasure to measure --- HEY THAT RYMES AS WELL ---LO

no way with a healthy rib area this monster would have easily taped over 2,000.

ron has promised the first 25 seeds for my oaf "coats for kids " seed promo this winter.

Talked with Ron last night at Bethlehem, Like Christy said, they didnt have power for 5 days, wanted the seeds, didnt want to take the chance of more rotting, harvested it. Was on track for 2200 range.

The growth on this fruit was no doubt staggering. The problem is we need to get one to hold up doing those kind of numbers.

The 1675 Hopkins was similar. It grew nearly 40# / day until about 1300 then quit due to a blown out main vine. Had it kept that rate it would have likely split as well. As far as I know these 2 pumkpins are the best growers ever.

Now we gotta get one to hold up. Maybe the 1810 in Ron's is exactly what we need. Something that has a shot at being incredibly thick and maintain some of the vigor of that 1725 pumpkin.

Ron was due. Since the 1502, he has experienced some mediocre years(at the Ron Wallace level) producing pumpkins I would be very proud of but not what he is capable of growing.

Christy, you must be glowing as well. Sure wish he could have gotten an official weight, but I am a believer in that things happen for a reason and disappointment is as integral to this hobby as the elation of success.

Congrats Ron.

Been kind of in the pumpkin slumps after a crop failure mid-summer, but seeing that in the SNGPG newsletter really renewed my enthusiasm. First serious contender for 2k as far as I'm aware.

Thanks for all the kind words. It split the pinhole after we received 4 inches of rain during a run in the 40's per day. Was still gaining 30 pounds per day at 1700, then the weight dropped off from air getting inside. A little bit of water and rot just started to form on the bottom so it's a good thing I decided to remove seeds. Hurricane left us with no power for almost a week so I was not able to weigh it. I was very happy with the overall thickness of the pumpkin. Matt D has removed cuttings that I am told are doing well. Final measurments on day 66 were 200-120-121.

Unreal, Ron. We're all SO disappointed for you....but awestruck as well! How amazing that must have been to watch that monster erupt out of your patch. Once again, you've elevated this hobby/sport into a new level, official weight or not. Well played, sir.

Potential. just when you think these freaks have shown us the ceiling, a pumpkin like this shows us there are still uncharted territories out there and higher mountains yet to climb. Great job Ron and sorry it didn't make it to scale, but the Freak got many people dreaming of the possibilities still out there. unreal!

Congrats Ron! Truly impressive. Shows all of us that anything is possible when you get the right combination and the intelligence of a great grower. Will definitely inspire many people to want to be great and push the limit, knowing the fruit will respond when you do things right.

i crossed my 1725 harp seed with rons amazing 1725 pumpkin.
i have always wanted to do another sibbed pumpkin after the good results in 2006 from my 1450 (1068 x 1068 )

if seeds are plentiful after season???????(one never knows but i suspect ill have seeds in her) ill put the first 25 in with rons for the oaf coats for kids then give most of the rest away .

seeds are no good sitting in a drawer.
the way this hobby is going ya gots ta get the new seeds out and into a growers hands for planting or you risk the chance that it will fall out of favor, then no one benefits.
least of all the hobby.

Hey I think this year for Ron was a success. How many of us are able to grow such monsters every year with uch consistency. Sorry to hear about the loss of such a big one. This year the hurricain really mashed us. Flooded my patch along with the ammendments. The weeds seemed to love it and decided to take hold. When you grow big ones like some people do you always run the risk of blow outs and such. I really feel bad for the guys that that happens to. Its a real kick on the ass to put such effort and momey, time and sweat only to have a pumpkin that looks like mashed potatoe's a week after a pin hole. And so clode tp weigh off time.
