My condolences to the Yohe family. The giant pumpkin growing community has lost a great advocate. He was a good man.

I remember a couple few years ago, at my first PGPGA weigh off, Joe was carrying around a Jack-Be-Little pumpkin telling everyone "it was a rough year!" We sure will miss that outspoken grower from Pittsburgh.

We knew Joe for many years. He would bend your ears until they hurt but he was an all around great guy. He used to drive up to our patch several times a year and spend hours talking pumpkins and tell us all about his growing theories. He used to put measure tapes in yellow plastic wind-up cases and give them out to anyone who wanted one. The PGPGA will miss him very much. Our condolences to the Yohe family. Larry & Gerry

I am sorry to hear about Joe "Louie" Yohe a very good person devoted to growing the giants. I will never forget his willingness to let every one know how to grow them & the mistakes you were making.
I still have my yellow tape measure he gave me & remember the lifting rings he designed.
We will pray for the Yohe family during this troubled time for them,
Dave & Carol

Joe was one of a kind and will be missed by everyone who goes to the Altoona weigh-off. In recent years Joe grew some very nice pumpkins, especially when you consider Joe's age and health problems. If you talked to him only once you knew Joe loved to grow and talk about giant pumpkins. He shared a lot of informantion on his experiences, ideas and theories, he also made a lot of people laugh over the years at the Altoona weigh-off.
Rest in peace Joe, you will be missed by many.

Sorry to hear that Joe has passed. In many ways he probably was a genius. He had many inventions to his credit. I believe he never got over the death of one of his sons. Last year he grew his biggest pumpkin and was very happy about it. It was over 100 pounds. He was also a great sport when the lifter guys dropped one of his other pumpkins and it busted open. He went to the nearby Walmart, bought a saw and opened his pumpkin so that everyone could see what the inside looked like. So long Joe. Marv

Hello everyone,
I am Lew Yohe's son Dale. He always went by Lew, so it's funny to see everyone call him Joe. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers for Dad. He had a rough few months and put up a good fight.
A lot of your names sound familiar since all Dad talked about was pumpkins haha. He sure did love his pumpkins! Someday, maybe my brother will pick up where he left off.
Good luck to everyone at the weighoffs.
We will all miss him. Love you Dad.
