I have completely lost my main vine 2 feet before the pumpkin on my 1101 to vine borers. I do have 10 feet of vine still in tact after the kin with each node rooted. But, there are only a few leaves left with new growth just popping up.
Has anyone had a fruit last a month in a similiar scenario? It will basically just be fed from the 10 feet of vine roots with limited leaves. Plus we are 100+ in temps the next couple days.
Thanks

I lost my main vine almost a month ago, http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=166176 Since that time, its only been fed by a five foot side vine (with only 4 leaves) and one main vine root. Surprisingly its actually continued to grow, albeit very small gains of 5 pounds or so per day.

Should be enough to sustain the pumpkin. I cut 80% of vine, everything before the pumpkin on Aug. 6th last year due to vine disease. Harvested the pumpkin Sept. 3rd and put in cooler til Oct. 3rd weigh-off. gained 200 lbs after Aug.6th til harvest. weighed 928 lbs., just 1% under chart.

I would leave it go Luke, it should be fine if you have it covered with a tarp.( not touching the skin of coarse).
I had a fruit last season that had downey mildew bad and lost most of the leaves by Sept. It was fine until I harvested it in early Oct.
If you can let some vines grow and bury to encourage root growth, that may help in the next month.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I hit it with a heavy dose of Bayer TS to hopefully kill any remaining borers.
