Well, Christy, you´re probably not the only one who´s dying for that reason. Keep us updated!
BTW, I´m surprised that I couldn´t find any attempt to start a wager on how heavy it might go (at least, I haven´t come across any such entries on bp.com). Therefore, to keep those entertained who will visit this page of your post quite frequently within the next minutes or hours, I´ll try to make a first attempt with this suggestion: 1897 lbs.

Surely this pumpkin didn't go that much light?! Think there might have been some field measuring errors? Be curious to see what the actual OTT is......

The final pumpkin, grown by Dale Marshall of Anchorage, dedicated to his nephew, Patrick, weighs in at 1723 pounds, but was disqualified due to a soft spot that went all the way through to the cavity.

Congrats to both. This goes to show the highs and lows of this hobby. I've certainly been in a similar situation, but not on the scale as my situation was mid September. I can't imagine and I truely feel for you Dale.

That said congrats to both of you. JD I know it probably didn't weigh what you wanted it to weigh, but dang, new state record by a lot and Dale with #4 largest fruit of all time. Wow.

I think everyone needs to step back and realize what it takes to grow a world record. A record is a record for a reason. We've never had a 440" pumpkin weigh heavy. 1800# is a once ever pumpkin. I just happened to be the LUCKY (VERY LUCKY) one that got the seed and was able to do the seed justice.

Hopefully the hobby will move forward again in the very near future, but it will take a special seed, special plant, special soil, and a good and LUCKY grower. Any of those items missing and it's no dice.

Best of luck to all.

Congrats Dale. Thank you for the ride. Sorry about the soft spot, I know thats like a swift kick in the crotch.

1723 official or not is perhaps better than I will ever do, and is simply amazing to me. It has been one of the few bright spots in my season.

I remember back when the 1061 Zehr was the world record.....Oh how far we and especially you have come!

two of the finest people i have never met in person, but thoroughly enjoy our conversations through email. Dale, not much to say but....Thank You. thank you for sharing the journey even though the end is not how you wanted it to play out. you will understand when i say, "what a long strange trip its been!" my heart aches for you brother but from what i know, you will take it in stride after the sting goes away. dmg or undamaged, it brought so much joy to you and many of us all season long. no one can ever take that away. congrats my brother. well done. thank you!

and to J.D., congrats on Lucy Lu! she finally gets a chance to rest. lol. another unbelievable journey. thank you for the great posts also all year long. your words and our convos via email meant so much last year when you were rooting me on and i was proud and happy to reciprocate.

i will raise a beer to you both right now and take a healthy glug. nice! Congrats again to you both and will look forward to watching your 2012 season unfold next year and hopefully many more moons to come.

Congrats to JD for new Alaska state record and to Dale for this amazing monster. DMG or not, DQ or not, heavy or light, above entries clearly show that many of us had been keeping our fingers crossed that your effort would turn out worthwhile. It did! Although not a new World Record AG, it´s one of the heaviest (perhaps THE HEAVIEST) this year.
