Has anyone heard from Vermont Growers? They sure are getting slammed by flooding. It was a sick sight to see historic covered bridges being washed away on the news. I hope everyone is all right in New England. Post and relieve everyone's mind if you're on-line.

There was little damage here in Springfield, Vermont but the surrounding towns have been hit hard many are just getting a road into them. The good news is the water is going down.

We made it through as well and the patch held up to the rain for the most part. The long gourds and trellis made it as well after tying the gourds to stakes with construction tape. Massive flooding anywhere near major rivers but us on higher grounds are ok. I think it would be a good idea to start a strategy message thread to ask growers what they did to their patches to survive the storm and what did they learn. This may help all of us out in the future. John

My last pumpkin was covered by two 1/2 inch pvc hoops stuck into 1 inch pvc pipes driven in the ground. I wrapped a 9 x 12 tarp around the hoops and secured it with one inch binder clamps. Trees and bushes to the north of the pumpkin served as a windbreak.
I was lucky. I am saddened by the devastation throughout Vermont caused by the hurricane and I hope that state and federal help arrives quickly so that people can be secure before winter comes.
