How do pumpkins with deep ribs usually weigh ?
My thinking is that they would go light on the scale because you are measuring over a lot of air. Has anyone ever tracked this question?

I have heard that they tend to go heavier. If you had a smooth fruit and ran a piece of string over the surface of it from point a to point b...then measured it. It would take a longer piece of sting to go down and come up over the ribs. Meaning - a ribbed pumpkin has much more surface area - more surface area means more space for pumpkin tissue. That is one idea anyways...

Very good point. I understand what your saying.
When I measure the circumference, I always measure the widest area. I believe I read that this is the proper way to measure . But if I were to measure on the inside of a rib, when taping the circ., it would be several inches smaller.
