I have a pumpkin that is oozing a heavy amount of a yellow jelly looking substance all around the stem and rear area of the pumpkin but the pumpkin seems solid in those areas. I know they will ooze a clear sap when putting on a lot of weight but I have not seen this before. Am I getting ready to have a rotting pumpkin?

if the area is firm around the ooze? its probably just sapping.try wiping it off with a solution of hydrogen peroxide. it may continue but at least your sanatizing the area.

You got a leaker! It happens, try to keep it clean and dry, which will be a daily activity, if not twice daily. Usually it turns into a yellowish gell that holds in liquid and can cause rotting to start in the area where the liquid is trapped. Leakers are a pain in the butt!

Thanks guys, is this caused by a nutrient deficiency or just a trait? Or maybe just a random thing?

uaually this happens on older pumpkins that are still growing. i believe the older ,thicker skin plays a part in this.

It happened to me last year after a week of heavy rain, it started to rot after days of yellow goo came out. When I cut it open it was filled with water and it stunk.

I had this happen on my 568 in 2009. I wipe it with a water and bleach solution each day for about 30 days. Thanks to Temor it made it to the weigh in.
