Yes it was a surprise for us to see it come in where it did. Always a pleasant thing to show up and go over the chart a bit. As did several others that day. Also nice to see Steve krug get there with a fruit. He has been wanting to do it for several years and finally got it done this season..Heck he even used a C&P seed also...LOL
anyways the fruit was started the end of march and put in a hut with heating cable and such about april 6th or 7th. Pollinated on june 5th or 6th I do believe..Had an earlier set but remember it being just a bit strange shaped....so there we were sitting out there with Knife in hand MArc and myself trying to decide what to do??? cut it and go with the later one knowing perfectly well the time frame is so important...and WALA...Cut it off and went with the one we took out there yesterday...turned out alright I guess!!! The 1220 is a 1068 wallace X with a 1119 Mcmullen..amazing how the 1119 corss into that 1068 took alot of those nasty sag rings out of it..This one was aperfect blend of 1068 heaviness and the shape of the 1119 ..no rings or scary parts anywhere...Massive stem and main vine alot like the 1068 tends to do....anyways there you have it
