Yesterday I did measurments of my pumpkin from the 991 Urena. Nothing spectacular and nothing really big. Steady growth with even watering everyday. I did another 0TT measurment this morning and was urprised to see that the fruit had put on 50 lbs. In one day. Is this even possible? I measured it 3 more times and came up with the same results. I understand that some pumpkin genetics tend tp kick in later in the season but this seem odd. Its a good problem to have...i supect if this continues the fruits gonna split. I'd rather take a chance on that then not meat my goal. My question is, I thought that the rapid growth phase is tapering down for a fruit thats 37 days old. And has this happened to other people fruits?

Not too surprising kenny cuz the 991 I grew last year had a couple days that put on 89 lbs in 48 hours about day 32 to day 34. Do nothing different except do not fert for a day or two but stay consitent with watering no matter what. Maybe avoid pruning pop up terts also to help easy the rapid growth. And hang on and enjoy the ride!

Kenny, This is a real nice gain, but a real large gain, most likely what happened is that you measured in two different spots on two different days, a tiny variance can make a big difference, there can be a bump that adds an inch here or there. At this point it is far better to run averages over a period of several days. Keep it growing! Kim www.extremepumpkinstore.com

Kenny, Sounds like you have a good one going.I would definitely take Shazzy's advice on not pruning for a while.
Last year I grew a 763 Young and it continued to pick up in weight gains every week, until I got some rib splits that went into the cavity. At day 52 it was over.
The last week it was growing it averaged 40 pounds a day .
So, you could still be seeing big gains for another 2 or 3 weeks if your weather stays warm.
Best of luck with it !

I understand that growth like this is unusual. My friend mike said to continue to ride it out. I must admit I was thinking this fruit wouldnt kick in. The addition of the worm tea drench helped out also some balanced fertilizer. Well see.

Growth like you are seeing is unusual, but not unheard of. Good luck Kenny!

Pap, the weight hit like a ton of bricks right after the rain hit us.

if the fruit growth increases after a rain, then water was a limiting factor. you might think about watering more and more often.
