Wondering what an average size should be for day 20?? I was reading in the growers diary and a guy said he had 171" at day 20. How is this being measured?? I would have to measure from the end of the laneway to get a reading like that!! Mine is 43" ott and 67" circ on day 18. I'm no pro at this but I must be way behind!!

A decent # would be 70 inch circ on day 20
This article will give you somewhere to start http://www.gvgo.ca/downloads/2008_feb_ott_benchmarks.pdf

Joe, how are you 43 ott and 67 circ? That's like saying you have 75 cents total which includes a silver dollar.

Joe, not many people grow giant pumpkins to be average. ;-)
I'm a rookie grower and didn't even have a patch tilled until almost June and mine are hitting 28-32 inches by day 10 and 60-65 inch circumference by Day 20. Then they fall behind the benchmarks even further by day 30. I'm starting to hit them with foliar fertilizer 3 days a week. maybe they will catch up.

67" circ. on day 18 is a respectable number IMO. OTT is the sum of the circ., side-to-side, end-to-end measurements.

Yes, I think your missing some measuring information. You need all three measurements to get the total, before you look to the conversion chart! I know these are a bit confusing, I'm a newbie also, and I'm still honing taking measurements. OTT stands for Over The Top. That is the form of measuring. There are two measurements (stem end to blossom end, and side to side) in which you actually take you measuring tape over the top of the pumpkin. Those measurements must start at the ground straight down as if you released the tape and allowed it to fall straight down, taking the tape over the top and down to the ground. So, there is actually two OTT numbers to add to the circumferance. You right in there, keep up the good work! BSD, David

Joe, give up now your numbers are way behind. Just kidding your circ sounds real good for day 18. You just gotta learn how the ott measurement works. May i suggest pumpkin pro for the iphone? Lol. Good job so far.
