Erik, I lost a stump on my 1385 Jutras one year. I removed the whole stumap and 2 ft of main and first secondaries. It did not effect growth as what I could tell. The pumpkin took right off and split on me. It avg over 30 lbs per day with no stump. As long as you have a healthy secondary root system, balanced soil, sun and luck you should be fine...Good luck!

Erik, in '08 i had a foamer and couldnt get it under control. had hardly any stump left, but by day 30 my fruit was taping at 600lbs. it split 3 days later, so who knows what would have or could have happened. but if it was really impacting things in a big way, there is no way it would have been that big at day 30

I'm beginning to think that I'll start cutting off my main right at the basal crown regardless of foam...proactive!

lol 1320!.. Once I found out I have a foamer 10 times out of 10 I end up cutting the entire stump off anyway and do what Jason does.
I really don't see how that white foamy dripping and stinky stump will help your pumpkins growth out by trying to save it by drying it out, like using bleach, etc or even trying to drain that smelly, rotten fluid out.
I just dont see how trying to save a stump thats already foaming and filled with fliud, how anything good could pass through it even if you could get it dried out, and lets say if the stump did dry out in a week or so do you really think anything could pass through it anyway to help in better growth for your pumpkin?
Here is some question for everyone , be fun to see your opinions on..
do you think good nutrients and water could pass through a foamer even if you had it dried out and healed? I know I dont think so, and do you really think by trying to save it that it would increase or even help in your pumpkins growth? I think maybe if you catch it in the first couple days maybe?, but that's usually impossible to catch early because by the time you find it , its usually puking the white foam out anyway.
whats ur guys thought on this?
