Do people special build pallets for bringing pumpkins to weigh-offs or are standard 40 x 48 inch pallets big and strong enough? I was thinking I could slap plywood and styrofoam on a standard pallet and it should hold up to 1200 lbs or so. an oak pallet should be able to hold a ton, if I can find one..or three.

Most growers can get away with a standard pallet that may be motified a bit. That being they put plywood on the base and some type of padding. Other growers make their pallets.

I use a pallet I got from walmart,(make sure you ask if you can have one) they are very heavy duty, and fit nice in the back of a pick-up truck.I have thick carpet on mine and it works well.
