I lost my pumpkin on the 1610 Lieber today in a way I have not seen before. The pumpkin was growing at a very good rate up until day 16 when gains dropped off sharply then a couple days later the pumpkin skin devoloped spots of rot on the topside and the skin oozed small water droplets from all over the skin of the pumpkin. I have never lost a pumpkin to rot (or disease?) so this is new to me. Has anyone seen a pumpkin die like this or have an idea of what might have went wrong?

My 1610 seems to be sterile. No male pollen and all females have aborted after looking like they would be decent starts. However mine did so much earlier...like by day 20

Gourdzilla, I had a very similar thing happen to my 1157 plant. I had one growing great at day 16 when I measured. At day 20 it really slowed down. A day or two later NO growth at all. The stem was oozing liqued all over it and the fruit started getting light spots all over.
The plant and vine look good so I am assuming that it aborted for some reason. It weighed 156 on my scale, not bad for a 20 ish day old fruit. I am setting a few more to see what happens to them.

My 1610 produced two males, neither had stamen, and the first pollination did abort. The second pollination is looking okay right now, but it's only about 15 days or so.

I have had three different pumpkins on three different plants do the same thing as Gourdzilla's in the last week. Two of them were about tennis ball size and the other one is my largest at 36" circ. The top side of the pumpkin was oozing a jelly like liquid. I dusted with captan and it seems to have stopped but now it has developed a split in the shoulder. I don't think it's gonna make it.

Vince, I'm so sorry to hear that. That was a nice looking pumpkin at day 15. My 1610 hit day 15 with a circ. of 56". I was hoping to compare the growth of both our 1610's. On the bright side, Jim's 1544(that was pollinated with your 1610) looks like it's going way orange. That could prove to be a great big/orange cross.

My 1610 has been sterile as well. So far, I can't get any females past day 10. I know a buddy near me also has the 1610 and it's a normal plant with normal males.

Its interesting to read here and on some other posts about the troubles people are having with the 1610. My plant grew like crazy filling its area sooner than I have ever had a plant do and the pumpkin was the fastest grower I've had yet. The only abnormality I saw was that nearly every female flower had a few seeds in the flower including the pumpkin I had growing. I'm beginning to think that my pumpkin might have just plain aborted. Ron, I looked at some pictures of fusarium on pumpkins and it didn't really resemble what I had. Doug, I hope you do better than I did with the 1610. Jim and I are both thinking we may have a really good cross between our two plants. Big and orange genes for sure. I like my 1394 Daletas X 1610 cross too. The 1394 went 23% over the chart. Maybe a heavy orange cross? Glenn, what a shame. I had just cut the only other pumpkin I had on the main off just a day or two before this mess happened. All growth was terminated and it was full throttle for the pumpkin to go. I may leave the plant in for a bit longer just to see what it does but more than likely I'm going to pull it. I'll help Jim with his 1544. The 1394 at home is doing very well so far.
