I have a 20 day fruit that is slowing down to 3 inches growth in circumference per day. it was only 60 inches in circumference on day 20 but had been growing 4-5 inches per day at day 10-15. It was really hot last week. I'm starting to dead end secondaries this week and and am restarting my fertilizer program this week as well. I'll only cut 1-2 secondaries a day and I'm overhead irrigating with 20-10-20 at 1/2 recommended strength. will that help kick into gear again?

I would think that 20-10-10 isn't needed at this point in the season. Then again i'm not a monster grower. If you must fertilize at this point I would think a more balanced formula would be called for.

Did you do a soil test this month? Depending on rainfall amounts, you could be deficient in important nutrients, and if it's hot, you might need more water. Stick a garden fork in, lever it up, and see how wet your soil is 10 inches down.
I agree with Kenny. You don't need nitrogen now so much as phosphorus and potassium. Something like 10-10-10 or 20-20-20 would do the trick, along with seaweed emulsion, all in a foliar and drench.

we had 2 inches of rain yesterday and we have clay soil...it is plenty wet now, but it was dry last week. it has been a really wet year so far and the only nitrogen I added was 10 yards of aged manure in May (for 3000sqft) and a few handfulls of 19-19-19 in June. It is new patch made from an old pasture and wasn't even tilled until late May. the hyponex 20-10-20 is what I have laying around. besides, phosphorus binds to the soil (especially clays) and rarely leaches like nitrogen and potassium often do.
