I am sure some have culled after day 20 before....I may have to wait well after day 10 this year on one of my plants.
The one on the main has a terrible angle to the vine and if it doesnt get better, I will have to settle for a closer side viner.

i culled a 16 day old pumpkin at 11.5' that was 40" circ on day 15 for one that at 7 days at 18' was already 16" circ in the morning, which usually means its a decent grower and will hit over 25" circ on day day 10. the 11.5' was 20.5" on day 10 and the 18' ended up hitting 29" circ on day 10 and 52.5" on day 15. so culling the 16 day old one in favor of the 7 day old one seems to have been the right decision so far. i usually always go with the first one if growing decent. in this case i wasn't happy with the first ones rate and figured more plant with 18' set and a faster rate was time for me to do something different. i was thinking the 11.5' was going to be the keeper and set up mill fabric and trained close secondaries around the fabric for room and removed the one at the pumpkin to get the pumpkin to a 90 better with accute angle off main. this left a gap when culling later so i took the secondary on one side of the opening and sharp curved it it back to the main to fill in the gap. with a small gap still from hooking the other near by secondaries around where the mill fabric was, i did the same thing with the secondary on the other side of the culled pumpkin. no more gap, gaps from culling later can also be filled in with terts if you didn't prune them already. or take a secondary tip still growing and spider it around the plant and back to the gap,

Thanks Shazzy, I'm getting to that same dilemma. My first one is on the main and not growing fast but steady, the second one is on a tertiary and seems to be on a much faster pave so far.

i would think long and hard to pull one off a main and go with a tertiary pumpkin. i would think there would have to be something odd other than the growth rate. a tert pumpkin or secondary will grow just as fast as a main one early on. but as the plant grows, that main vine will get bigger also and to a size that tertiary will never get to and the twice going through narrow junctions to get to the pumpkin, you will have less juice flow when the pumpkin needs it most from day 20 and on if you choose the tert kin
