With temps in the 100's right now and heat indexes much above that in many parts of the country, is anyone taking precautions with preventing aborts? Is this something to worry about once the fruit is over 15 days? I'm not even sure if I have the right type of shading (white sheet with a tarp over it to reflect the light). Temps are supposed to go down tomorrow, but will be back to the 100's by Saturday.
Thanks

It's been about 90 the past few days here, and except for the day itself of pollination, I haven't been doing much except watering and keeping the fruit shaded and they're not having any issues.

To my knowledge aborts can happen at any stage. I guess if you keep the leaves healthy with seaweed and keep moisture levels moist. You have a better chance of it not happening. So many growers load their soil with everything under the sun. I bet we cause our own issues.

I wish I have some 'everything under the sun', but I think it was scoarching heat that caused my 1036 Slone to abort. Had another fry before it was due to pollinate! Heat finally broke shortly afternoon today. My plan is to freeze as many bottles of water as I can! BSD, David

Big Show, I guarentee if you surround the chosen fruit with some gallon jugs that are frozen, the pollination will take hold I did the same thing. the heat and humidity just got to much for a lot of fruits to take. Good luck.
