Raid ant baits.
Saw a huge carpenter ant excavating at the base of one plant early this spring -- put down a couple and haven't had a problem.

50/50 Borax powder laundry soap(20 mule team) and granulated sugar. Mix and sprinkle where you see ant activity. They carry it back to nest and good night Vienna.
reapply after water event.

Hold on a sec here guys. The ants are eating the pumpkin plant? I have never heard of this. What exactly are they doing? Perhaps they are farming aphids?

Sevin, thats what I use. Kills just about every insect known to man. Not only that it doesnt hurt the plant.

I am struggling with ants big time this year also and they are doing the same thing. I am about to break out the Sevin because the damage is really bad after each rain.

I have lost whole plants to yellow ants that eat the roots right off the stump. I wouldn't take any chances and eliminate them.
