So sparrows bit off the top of my female flower two or three days before I expected to pollinate (this limited my ability to see when it was going to open since that nice orange color appears at the tip). I thought that it was going to open this morning so I tied it up last night. When I went out there this morning and untied it she didn't open so I cut the petles off a bit and forced it open.
Has anyone had a successful pollination of a female before she opened?

If today was the day, you'll be fine. I've forced female flowers open the night before and pollinated with success.
